Worship for 16th May 2021

The Sunday after Ascension.

Is the word "ascension" the right word to use. Scripture talks about Jesus being "raised up" and "lifted up." Heaven is a gift of God's grace, not an achievement, and not a place, but being taken home to God's loving presence. We find we are lifted up, carried home, not just from the spiritual heights, but back here in the city where we have neighbours to serve. We mustn't stand staring into heaven. Whilst w may have our heads in the clouds, our feet should be firmly on the ground.
